Privacy policy

The short version

Widow9 OS collects nothing about you. It has no telemetry, no account, no analytics and no "phone home". This website has no cookies, no trackers and no analytics either.

Like any computer, a Widow9 PC does talk to some servers to get updates and protect you. Each of those is listed below, so you can see exactly what happens.

Who we are

Widow9 OS and widow9.org are made by Mampi Technologies Ltd (company number 17484970, registered in England and Wales). For anything about privacy, email support@mampitech.com.

This website (widow9.org)

  • No cookies, no trackers, no analytics. We don't know who visits, and we don't want to.
  • Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel. Like every web host, their servers see your IP address when your browser asks for a page, and keep short-lived logs for security and to keep the service running. We don't use those logs to identify or track anyone.
  • Downloads. The Widow9 ISO is served by Cloudflare (download.widow9.org). Cloudflare sees your IP address to send you the file, in the same way.
  • Edition colours. If you press the Standard / Cyber Monk switch, your browser remembers the choice on your own device (local storage). It is never sent to us.
  • Links to other sites. The donate button opens PayPal, and the Facebook links open Facebook. Nothing from those sites loads on widow9.org until you click. Once you do, their own privacy policies apply.
  • Emails. If you email us, we use what you send only to reply, and delete it when it's no longer needed.

Widow9 OS on your PC

Widow9 itself sends nothing about you to anyone. These are the connections a Widow9 PC makes, and why:

WhatConnects toWhy
Web lookups (DNS)Quad9, encryptedTurns website names into addresses. Quad9 is a Swiss non-profit that doesn't log your IP address.
Security updatesLinux Mint and Ubuntu update serversDownloads fixes and new versions.
Tracker blocklistGitHub (the HaGeZi list)Downloads the latest blocklist once a week.
FirefoxMozillaBrowser and add-on updates. Telemetry is switched off.
Apps you installSoftware Manager, FlathubOnly when you install or update apps.
Cyber Monk toolsKali Linux, Tor ProjectOnly if you choose to install them.
"Get Lattice9" buttonmampitech.comOnly if you click it.

Each of those services sees your IP address, as any download does. None of them receives anything from Widow9 about who you are or what you do.

The live "trackers blocked" counter on your desktop is a number stored on your own PC. It never records which sites were blocked, and it never leaves your PC.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. In practice we hold none unless you've emailed us. Email support@mampitech.com. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too.
